No regrets

In case you were wondering, I have to say something about my last post that started with the mysterious “444444444.” Does anyone else work on a computer where your cat stretches out between the monitor and the keyboard? And MOST of the time it’s okay? Yeah, well right as I hit “publish” last week, Flynn stretched out and added his little signature line, which is apparently, “444444444.” And once you hit “publish” in a blog post, there’s no going back. So from Flynn to you, I wish you a very happy “444444444.” And now on to to my current post 🙂

A common regret you hear about from people near the end of their lives is that they didn’t live a life that was true to who they were, and instead lived a life others expected of them.

You don’t want that! You want to go out a big smile on your face because you’ve done the things you’ve dreamed about. You want to think back on the opportunities you created. The people’s lives you touched. The energy you brought to the earth.

Leaving with no regrets means you have to do some work and take some risks. Perhaps it’s time to let out that weird sense of humor. To express your unusual sense of style. To rethink the career you’re in and reconsider the career everyone said you weren’t suited for. To find the person you lost touch with. To take the trip you dream about but haven’t made happen.

What do you love to do or used to love to do, that you aren’t doing? This might include:

  • Traveling
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Acting
  • Singing
  • Painting
  • Playing an instrument
  • Getting a degree
  • Figuring out how to make something
  • Learning a language
  • Having a child
  • Playing outside
  • Getting a dog
  • Volunteering
  • Doing interesting work!

Every time you set aside a dream or defer action to a later time, you lose a bit of energy. And the only way to get that back is to take a step in a direction that lifts your energy. What do you love to do? And why not do more of it?

Being true to yourself isn’t always a clear or easy path. It takes thought – real pondering time. It takes trust in your gut, your instinct. And it takes action!  You have a right to be goofy and to have fun. It’s time to get out of the shallows and set sail!

This should be on all of our tombstones: No regrets. “444444444.” 🙂

Namaste!
